Norwegian-American, Ira Kessey III was
born in San Francisco, CA on August 3rd
1957. As a child, Ira was fascinated with
dimensional art, architectural ornamentation
and sculpture. After an early interest in
woodcarving, he progressed to sandblast
art glass and stained glass. He owned an
art glass studio in Oakland for 15 years
called Frosted ideas. Several years later he
began a shift to stone and is currently in
designing and creating monuments for
Turlock Marble & Granite Works. He
spends much of his time between Turlock
and Truckee, Ca traveling the west coast
for his various commissions (art in public
places) and art exhibitions. Ira is passionate
about his art saying: "Some pieces tell me
what they want to be, others take shape
after many hours of careful massaging. I
love the hands on of the crative process,
the knowledge that what i create will be
enjoyed long after I'm gone."
